In 2017 DCS was hired by Walsh School District RE1 (WSD) along with Wold Architects and Engineers to conduct a facility master plan. During this process, all of the campus facilities were inspected and evaluated and significant liabilities were identified at exterior doors, electrical circuits, water supply lines, and HVAC – primarily ventilation. DCS was successful in advancing a BEST Grant application in 2018 to address the most pressing issues facing the district. DCS then managed all aspects of the resulting project from planning and design through the completion of construction for all recommended work.

In Fall 2019, DCS and Wold Architects worked with WSD in developing another successful BEST Grant application for a classroom and building consolidation which would raze the legacy elementary school and create a new elementary school adjacent the Jr./Sr. High School. The initial Master Plan was updated and the new grant application was expanded to include affected auxiliary buildings. The scope of the project would include allocation for asbestos abatement and removal of regulated building materials, new AV & IT equipment and systems and FF&E.

In 2021, WSD was successful in securing a $27M BEST Grant with $5.7M matching funds provided via a successful bond election in fall of 2021. DCS and Wold are currently working with WSD to implement the resulting campus consolidation project.
