Project Details:
Strasburg School District 31-J (SSD) hired DCS to assist in the completion of a district Facility Master Plan. DCS engaged RTA Architects to evaluate the district facilities and provide a comprehensive plan that identified deficiencies and provided multiple facility options. The district focused on safety and security, ADA accessibility, obsolete building systems and overcrowding.
The district was determined to address the deficiencies through a local bond election in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Education BEST Grant program. In 2019 the district failed to pass a local bond election that would generate the necessary matching funds for a grant. However in 2020, DCS was engaged to develop the BEST Grant application and in June 2020 Strasburg was awarded nearly $3.7M from CDE. DCS then assisted the district to develop a bond campaign that would generate the matching dollars necessary for the Grant. In fall of 2020, SSD was successful in their bond campaign efforts resulting in $6.3 matching funds plus $18.7 in additional bond proceeds.
DCS and RTA are currently working with SSD on upgrades, renovations and additions at all three school facilities - elementary, middle and high school, as well as, a new central services facilities building and campus-wide site, circulation and student green space improvements. This work is anticipated to be complete in fall 2022.
